Designing a streamlined ops platform for Red Bull Music

Timeline

2016 - 2018
Backstage is the command center that oversees artists, tracks performance data, orchestrates events, and more for Red Bull Music. As a contributor to product development, I helped consolidate and fix what was previously a high-friction jumble of software, designing a product that empowers internal teams to conduct routine work more quickly, easily, and efficiently.

The Challenge

Untangle what was once a patchwork of buggy, carelessly built apps — and design a cohesive, robust, and user-friendly experience that significantly improves operational output.

The Solution

A new enterprise product: Red Bull Music Backstage. This powerful, easy-to-use app suite delivers a streamlined experience that empowers teams to work more effectively.

What I Did

Wireframing, hi-fidelity visual design, prototyping, and specs for engineers; collaborated with the lead designer to collect, build, and deliver a components-based design system of reusable UI, layout and data viz patterns.

Bigger, better, faster, stronger

Backstage features intuitive navigation, clear visualizations, digestable insights, legible breakdowns, and dynamic CMS capabilities, giving users a highly optimized, decluttered workspace that substantially improves their productivity rate and quality of life.

Extensible, modular design

Backstage is supported by a comprehensive design system of components and patterns that greatly speed up the workflow between concept to production for new apps and screen states.

Results & impact

Backstage was a breath of fresh air for the management teams at Red Bull Music, who not only responded positively to the new user interface, but also remarked that the revamped app experiences performed so much better than before. On the product pipeline side, implementation of the Backstage design system helped facilitate a smoother handoff between the design and engineering team, allowing for product updates and releases to happen more rapidly.
